This year Malaysians seemed to celebrate Merdeka Day in a more muted and less flaggerific fashion than usual. While the official event was staged in the "air-conditioned comfort" of Stadium Putra, conceptual artist chi too decided to organise a simple merdeka + cake = <3 event at Dataran Merdeka, inviting Malaysians to meet up, picnic and celebrate with cake. chi too talks to us about his experiments with participatory events, public spaces and playing publicly over the past year chi too is a filmmaker and conceptual artist, who also organises events such as Main Dengan Rakyat, Everything's Gonna Be Alright and the new Lepark.
