Formed in November 1999, online news portal Malaysiakini celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, having published 117,000 stories and 2,000 videos (and counting!). In the process, it paved the way for independent media initiatives in a landscape where for too long, the mainstream press have been operating under the thumbs of the government and political parties. We speak with Premesh Chandran about the evolution of Malaysiakini's business model - it is one of only two news websites in the world which has made a success of online subscriptions. Premesh also shares on Malaysiakini's other projects, including the youth portal Voize and the Digitalibrary. Premesh Chandran is the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Malaysiakini.
