The Nut Graph launched almost two years ago at a time when 'new media' gained prominence for helping chart a new dawn in Malaysian politics. Since then, Malaysians looking for news online have been spoilt for choice. Mainstream news outlets renewed their focus online even as a handful of new online-news ventures emerged. While these outlets provided a new (and cheaper) form of news distribution, journalism remains a costly affair. This week we speak with Jacqueline Ann Surin, co-founder and editor of The Nut Graph. She shares her perspective on safeguarding good journalism while trying to balance that with the economics of online news models.
