The Fairly Current Show

#47 Pang Khee Teik

For the past 2 and a half years, The Annexe has become an important platform for Kuala Lumpur's artists, activists and audiences, particularly those interested in multidisciplinary, thought-provoking and socially-conscious work. This week, we speak with Pang Khee Teik about cultural contestations, making art more accessible and affordable, and the challenges of running The Annexe. He also talks about the idea behind Arts for Grabs, the gallery's regular arts and crafts bazaar. The latest edition takes place this weekend, on May 9 & 10 2009, with readings, forums and book launches (part of the KL Alternative Book Fest), a lecture by Dr. Farish Noor, a performance lecture by Marion D'Cruz and more. Pang Khee Teik is the Arts Programme Director of The Annexe Gallery. He was also formerly the editor of Kakiseni.com. He is a firm believer in questioning normative definitions of culture as those derived from "official versions".
