Charlene Rajendran is one of many Malaysians living in Singapore, and she chooses not to own a car. Her new book, the best-selling 'Taxi Tales on a Crooked Bridge', chronicles her conversations with some of the 'driving philosophers' she has met on the hundreds of taxi rides she has taken. We caught up with Charlene when she was in town recently and asked her about the wit and wisdom of taxi drivers, the process of putting the book together, and navigating between Malaysia and Singapore. Charlene Rajendran is a Malaysian educator, writer and theatre practitioner who has been based in Singapore for the past eight years. Her research interest are presently focused on South-East Asian culture, with particular emphasis on the work of theatre director Krishen Jit.
